U.S./El Salvador Sister Cities Wichita FOCUS Central America
May 20 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The 12 year civil war in El Salvador left much of the populationforced from their land and almost the entire populations of somevillages massacred. El Salvador was and still is one of thepoorest and most violent countries in the Americas. Recovery isa long, hard battle.U.S/El Salvador Sister Cities stepped in to help the displaced, struggling people. A small group of Wichitans (FOCUS) joinedwith this group to offer financial aid, moral support, accompaniment aid, and election observation. Education, metalic mining and its accompanying water pollution, possiblewater privatization are just some of the problems facingcommunities. Now with Temporary Protective Status (TPS)granted to Salvadorians possibly being ended by the UnitedStates, more problems may be added to the struggle.
Pat Ciotti has visited Wichita sister community LaBermuda/Marianela as well as other
Central American cities. Pat is a long-time member of FOCUS
