EPA Public Hearing: Proposed Revised Definition of US Waters
February 27, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
On December 11, 2018, the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of the Army (the agencies) signed a proposed rule revising the definition of “waters of the United States” to clarify the scope of waters federally regulated under the Clean Water Act. The agencies are announcing that a public hearing will be held in Kansas City, Kansas, with sessions on February 27 and February 28, 2019, to provide interested parties the opportunity to present data, views, or information concerning the proposed rule.
Sierra Club strongly opposes the proposed rule, which would put Kansas headwater streams, tributaries and wetlands at risk for pollution and physical destruction. For details on the process, go to https://www.epa.gov/wotus-rule.
The hearing will be held in the Wyandotte Ballroom of the Reardon Convention Center, 520 Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas 66101. EPA and the Army are hosting two public hearing sessions – one on Wednesday, February 27, and one on Thursday, February 28.
The Wednesday, February 27, session of the public hearing will convene at 4:00 pm (local time) and will conclude no later than 8:00 pm.
The Thursday, February 28, session will convene at 9:00 am and will conclude no later than 12:00 pm
The agencies have submitted the proposed rule to the Office of the Federal Register, and it will be published separately in the Federal Register. The comment period on the proposed action will end 60 days after the notice of proposed rulemaking publishes in the Federal Register. The pre-publication version of the proposed rule can be found at https://www.epa.gov/wotus-rule/step-two-revise and will be replaced with the official version of the notice after it publishes.
