Phyllis Bennis is a fellow of the Institute of Policy Studies, Washington, D.C. where she directs the New Internationalism Project. She is fellow of the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam and works with the United for Peace and Justice anti-war coalition, and co-chairs the UN-based International Coordinating Network on Palestine. Since 2002 Bennis has played an active role in the growing global peace movement and served as an informal adviser to several top UN officials on Middle East and UN democratization issues. Bennis is a frequent commentator on channels, like MSNBC, and has written and edited eleven books. Among them are her new Understanding ISIS & the New Global War on Terror: A Primer, her popular Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, and Before & After: US Foreign Policy and the War on Terror and Challenging Empire: How People, Governments, and the UN Defy US Power.
Howard and Jeanne Johnston, after working for the State Department in Germany, worked in academic leadership positions in Greece and the US. They retired to Wichita and founded the Global Learning Center in 1988. The Howard & Jeanne Johnston Award for Global Community Citizenship was established in 2000 to honor their lives of international service and global citizenship. The award is presented to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to global learning over a sustained period. The 2017 recipient of this award will be Armin Gerhard, who came to WSU in 1968. He taught German and Spanish, co-founded Intensive English Language Center, managed the Office of International Programs, and served as director of the International Education until retirement in 2014. 
Tickets $30 if paid by October 8th, 2017 and $35 after October 8th. Students pay $10. We ask you to buy your ticket by October 17th to secure your reservation due to the limited room capacity.
