15 Year Anniversary Lawrence Peace Vigil

Saturday, September 23, 12:00 pm

Ever been inside a tiny house made from a school bus? Want to install solar panels? How much do your kids know about compost goop, snakes, and frogs? What makes art “eco-conscious” and how can you make (or buy) holiday jewelry and gifts from found objects?

Join us for EcoFest Wichita September 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Wichita, 7202 E. 21st St. N. Admission is $2, free for kids under 12.

Shop from Kansas-based vendors for locally sourced, creative, vintage, and repurposed items and art. Make eco-friendly crafts you can keep. Play the EcoFunFacts trivia game and fill your EcoFest passport for a chance to win prizes, eat delicious plant-based and grain-fed food, and talk to experts on everything from master gardening to energy to air quality to advocating for the earth.

Take a tour of a 100-percent sustainable, off-grid “skoolie” tiny house on wheels converted from a local school bus. Learn about wind turbines, electric cars, Wichita air quality, aquaponics, pollinators, recycling, composting, climate change, wildlife, Kansas flora and fauna, biking and walking, and much more.

Environmentally friendly vendors will offer recycled, repurposed, upcycled, and vintage jewelry, collectibles, home décor, clothing, plants, and household items to help Wichitans live in ways that are kind to the earth. Ceramics, quilts, jams, tattoos, soaps, gems, pet treats, gifts, baskets, fair trade goods, diapers, jewelry, and much more will be on hand.

Speakers include naturalists, technology experts, home and garden specialists, artists, activists, and environmental educators. Advocates from Citizens’ Climate Lobby, Wichita Renewable Energy, Sunflower Community Action, Bike Walk Wichita, the Great Plains Nature Center, the Sedgwick County Extension Center Master Gardeners program, Transcend Existence, PRO Kansas Miller Recycling Center, Sierra Club Southwind Group, and the Wichita Area Sustainability Initiative will present information and demonstrations.

EcoFest is sponsored by First Unitarian Universalist Church of Wichita, a liberal religious community with long and proud history of providing and supporting liberal religion.
