More US supplied weapons in the Middle East |

In late July 2007, the Bush Administration announced that it would be increasing military aid to Israel 25% to $30 billion, would be guaranteeing $13 billion in military aid to Egypt and would sell $20 billion to the Gulf states, primarily Saudi Arabia, all over the next ten years. The Middle East is lacking for many things, but the one thing that every Middle Eastern country is awash in is weapons. This is a time for the United States to be promoting diplomacy, not more violence.
US law states that military aid is only to be used for defense, and is not to be provided to countries which engage in a "consistent pattern of gross violations of internationally recognized human rights." None of the recipient countries, including Israel, meet this standard.

The New Tactical Nuclear Weapons |

”The New Tactical Nuclear Weapons: Absurd and Dangerous: or a Management Necessity”? In September 2004 the Peace and Social Justice Education Fund, Physicians for Social Responsibility and People of Faith for Peace sponsored Greg Mello, the co-founder and director of the Los Alamos Study Group. He presented a compelling and comprehensive outline of the Bush administration’s plan to develop and deploy a new generation of tactical nuclear weapons. Reductions in our stockpile as outlined in the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty have stopped, in violation of the Treaty. The nuclear weapons industry is receiving increased funding for the designing of new weapons, which, though smaller, will be highly destructive on civilians. The “Advanced Concepts Initiative’, within our National Nuclear Security Administration, direct weapons scientists to “close any gaps” and leave “no novel nuclear weapons concept” unexplored. NNSA Administrator Linton Brooks reiterated that with this policy change, “We should not fail to take advantage of this opportunity”, even to the point of getting ready to conduct a nuclear test within 18 months. The small bombs and rockets will still be extremely deadly and will leave lingering radiation problems. The Los Alamos Lab is slated to begin building “pits”, the core of future weapons. There are hundreds now in storage. In addition, the story of cancer among “pit” production workers in Rocky Flats Lad of Colorado, now closed but still “hot”, is not generally known. The important decision about the nation’s nuclear weapons policies are made in secret. Local American citizens must keep watch in those place the government stays silent. Watch for more events covering this in the future. |
