Celebrate Medicare’s 44th Birthday—Action Alert for Universal Health Care |
|
|
Event submitted by Laura Tillem on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 - 12:37pm |
|
Thursday, July 30, Noon
1st St. and Market
In front of Senator Roberts’ and Rep. Tiahrt’s offices
Celebrate Medicare’s 44th Birthday by showing Congress and President Obama the people, unions, doctors, nurses, seniors, faith groups, and Americans of every stripe support universal healthcare.
Medicare has successfully provided care to seniors and people with disabilities for almost half a century. Medicare is a truly American-made system that other health care systems around the world have since been modeled after. With little over 3% administrative overhead, we must look to this uniquely American solution to our health care crisis. |

Health Care for All Petition Drive
Friday, July 3, 6:009:00 pm
First Friday Music
Meet at the fountains in Old Town Sq. (Warren)
2nd and Mead
The petition drive has gone very well from its debut at last Final Friday. We will continue at First Friday, the music crawl, on July 3. Meet at the fountains at Old Town Sq and we will fan out in teams to the various music venues and crowds. Please bring a clipboard if you have one. If not we will have a few extras.
We need more than just your signature. We need many people to work with clipboards and to take petitions individually to their churches, workplaces, families, etc. Please join in the work and fun. It is great to get out and connect with people in Wichita, raising the issue of health care reform. Please bring a clipboard or two so you can handle the lines of people waiting to sign. Hope to see you there. |

More US supplied weapons in the Middle East |
|
|
Story submitted by Horace Santry on Thursday, August 9, 2007 - 2:14pm |
|
In late July 2007, the Bush Administration announced that it would be increasing military aid to Israel 25% to $30 billion, would be guaranteeing $13 billion in military aid to Egypt and would sell $20 billion to the Gulf states, primarily Saudi Arabia, all over the next ten years. The Middle East is lacking for many things, but the one thing that every Middle Eastern country is awash in is weapons. This is a time for the United States to be promoting diplomacy, not more violence.
US law states that military aid is only to be used for defense, and is not to be provided to countries which engage in a "consistent pattern of gross violations of internationally recognized human rights." None of the recipient countries, including Israel, meet this standard.
