Take part in the countrywide demonstrations to end the war in Iraq and say “No New War with Iran”
Oct. 27, 2007 is the 5th anniversary of the vote in the U.S. Senate, which gave George Bush authority to go to war in Iraq. The rationale for war was based on lies. A new nationwide survey finds a large and growing majority of Americans is dissatisfied with the position of the United States in the world. Most Americans believe that U.S. policies are increasing the threat of terrorist attack and decreasing goodwill toward the United States. Large majorities of Americans feel that the United States puts too much emphasis on military force and unilateral action.
On the question of how to deal with the nuclear ambitions of Iran and North Korea, a majority of Americans disagrees with the Bush administration’s refusal to seek direct talks. Fifty-five percent say the United States should enter into talks without preconditions.
As usual, our representatives in Congress are refusing to carry out the will of the people. Congress has become a rubber stamp for the failed policies of Bush and Co. The Peace and Social Justice Center of South Central KS is sponsoring a weenie and marshmallow “roast” on Sat. Oct. 27, 2007, at noon, at the Peace Center, 1407 N. Topeka, Wichita in solidarity with rallies and demonstrations throughout the entire U.S., calling for an end to the war in Iraq and No new war in Iran. We will symbolically “roast” the spineless members of Congress who are refusing to stand up to Bush/Cheney and their permanent war strategy.
